An embarrassing moment
        My name is Elias, and I'm just 17 years old. Since I got to New York, I haven't been in an embarrassing situation. However, last semester the opposite occurred. I didn't know the difference between "appointment" and "date" because in my language it is the same word, "cita".
        I have a tourist visa, and I want to change it to a student visa. Two months ago, I went to the office at school because I had an appointment with Yvette Alphonsus. The appointment was for 10 o'clock, and I was waiting for my aunt, but she was delayed. I began to ask for Miss Yvette. She was talking to another person next to me, but I didn't know her. I told a lady in the office, "I have a date with Yvette Alphonsus". At that moment, Yvette was ending her conversation with the person, so the lady told Yvette, "Hey, Yvette, he's looking for you for a date", and everybody in the office was laughing. Yvette said, "Oh, really? I haven't had a date for a long time", and everybody was laughing again. I thought what I said was ok and fine, and I didn't know why everybody was laughing. I told her, "I'm waiting for my aunt and" and she said, "Oh, no, why is your Aunt coming? I thought we could be alone", and everybody was laughing again. At that moment, I understood everything - why everybody was laughing and what she was trying to tell me. Then, she said, "Do you understand what I'm saying?" I said, " Yes, now I understand everything".
        After that, my Aunt came into the office. I told her what had happened, and she began to laugh, too. That's bad, don't you think? Although I was so embarrassed, I learned something - when I should use "appointment" and "date".
